Albany International To Shutter Portland, Tenn., Facility
Albany, N.Y.-based paper machine clothing (PMC) manufacturer Albany International Corp. has
announced plans to close its forming fabric production plant in Portland, Tenn. The company cited
ongoing consolidation of its US and Canadian customer base and the need to balance its North
American PMC production capacity with anticipated demand from paper mills.
The closure, expected to be complete by June 2010, will impact 156 employees, who will receive severance and outplacement assistance. The Portland facility's manufacturing operation will be moved to other company facilities in North America. In the future, the company anticipates forming production will be based in one Canada-based facility, two Wisconsin-based facilities and one facility in Brazil. Press production will be consolidated at facilities in South Carolina, Canada, Brazil and Mexico; and dryer production operations will be located in Mexico.
