ICA Bremen Hosts Cotton Classing Training In Korea

BREMEN, Germany — September 30, 2015 — In association with the Spinners & Weavers Association of Korea (SWAK), ICA Bremen delivered a ‘Cotton Classing’ training course to 30 delegates at the KOTITI location in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, September 7-11.

Developed in response to industry demand, the five day training course was delivered by Karsten Froese and Wilfried Neumann (ICA Bremen) and concentrated purely on the classing of US raw cotton.

Following the training, Karsten Froese, said: “By concentrating on the visual classing of US cotton, the participants learned how to get a quick impression of different aspects of the quality of raw cotton — a useful tool for their daily work in the spinning mills. This was a highly motivated group which now has a good basic knowledge and understanding of classing. I would like to thank the SWAK and KOTITI staff for their excellent support, which contributed greatly to the success of this course.”

One delegate who benefited from the training said: “From the introduction of cotton to classing and lectures, I have a better understanding of cotton in general.” Another delegate said: “Now I can measure the staple length (including colour and leaf) with my hands”.

The practical training was based on approved standard procedures for visual grading and staple pulling. Theory was also covered along with the agreed standards and the regulations for quality evaluation according to the rules of the International Cotton Association Ltd.

In addition to its annual ‘Cotton Classing & Testing’ training programme, which takes place in Germany, ICA Bremen plans to deliver more bespoke training courses to the cotton community at other global locations.
