Georgia Textile Association Elects New Officers Directors

A. Illges Jr., president of Meritas Yarns, Columbus, Ga., was elected chairman of the Georgia Textile Manufacturers Association (GTMA) at the 99th annual meeting of the association, held recently in Atlanta.Scott M. Bryan, president and chief operating officer of Marubeni Denim, Columbus, was elected vice chairman, and Mickey D. Lankford, president of Walton Fabrics Division of Avondale Mills, Monroe, Ga., was elected treasurer of the association.The association also re-elected Roy Bowen as president and Suzanne Wilkes as secretary.Illges joined Swift Spinning Mills in 1962 and was named president of the company in 1977. He served in that capacity until 1985, when he left the company and joined Meritas.He has served two terms as director of the American Yarn Spinners Association and served as its president in 1982-83.Bryan began his textile career in 1974 when he joined Jefferson Mills. He joined Swift Textiles in 1979 and was named executive vice president and chief operating officer in 1994. He joined Marubeni Denim in 1997.He is chairman of the external advisory board of the Georgia Tech School of Textile and Fiber Engineering. He has also served as chairman of GTMAs research advisory committee and as treasurer and vice president of the Textile Education Foundation.Lankford has been with the Walton Fabrics Division for 23 years. He is a past president of the Textile Education Foundation.The following textile executives were elected by the GTMA membership to serve three-year terms on the board of directors:Harry Batty, Sylvania Yarn Systems;William A. Barron, Shaw Industries Inc.;Toni Cauble, WestPoint Stevens Inc.;Thomas B. Gardner, Springs Industries Inc.;William S. Johnson, Amoco Fabrics and Fiber Co.; and William Wiley, YKK Corp. of America.Lynn Davis, Swift Spinning Mills, Columbus, and Barclay Cox, Coats America, Toccoa, Ga., were elected to fill unexpired terms on the board.
