Teijin Introduces Eco-Friendly Products

Japan-based Teijin Ltd. has developed two new environmentally friendly products for use in apparel and other applications.Athtoma® is a new polyester-based fabric that is water-resistant, moisture- permeable and completely recyclable. Made completely of polyester and coated with a laminated film or a special Teijin-developed resin that contains no polyurethane, the fabric can be recycled under the companys Eco Circle® System, which collects used polyester products and recycles them into textiles for a variety of uses. Both film-coated and resin-coated fabrics incorporate the Schole® IV water-repellent finish that remains effective even after repeated washing. Athtoma is suitable for use in sportswear, uniforms and other apparel.Loele is a new leather material having a composite fiber and polyure-thane structure that approximates the structure of natural leather more closely than previous materials. In its manufacture, a fine-structured, high-density nonwoven fabric is impregnated with a moisture-dispersing, quickly solidifying polyurethane that does not require the use of organic solvents such as dimethylformamide (DMF). The resulting material is suitable for shoes, furniture sheeting, automobile finishings, bags and other uses.
