Pillowtex Reduces Operations

As part of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy restructuring, Kannapolis, N.C.-based Pillowtex Corp. is set to close a sheet manufacturing plant in Kannapolis and a towel yarn manufacturing operation in Columbus, Ga. The company also plans to scale back towel production in Kannapolis.Bob Haase, executive director for operations, said that the restructuring eliminates excess manufacturing capacity brought about by declining towel and sheet sales and will allow the company to better align its production capacity to sales.The jobs of 590 employees in Kannapolis and 190 employees in Columbus will be eliminated.
