3M Cracks Down On Counterfeitors

3M Cracks Down On CounterfeitorsSt. Paul, Minn.-based 3Ms Thinsulate brand of insulation for apparel accessories has been a recent target of counterfeiting by manufacturers in countries as far-flung as Paraguay, China, New Zealand, Italy, Finland and Canada. To stem this activity, 3M has initiated measures to ensure product authenticity in articles claiming to contain Thinsulate insulation. Measures include: new hang tag technology; cooperation with Customs officers and other security personnel to seize suspect imports; audits of retailers selling products claiming to use Thinsulate; and notification to specifiers and retailers when manufacturers use Thinsulate products and hang tags inappropriately.
