Orca Acquires Edgewise Tools

Orca Photonic Systems Inc., a Redmond, Wash.-based provider of laser and electro-optical systems for industrial processing applications, has acquired the assets and full product line of Edgewise Tools Inc., Poulsbo, Wash., a provider of laser systems for high-speed cutting of textiles and other soft goods.

The Edgewise product line includes the Continuous Feed Laser, Shuttle Feed Laser and Flat Bed Laser cutting systems designed to provide high-speed laser cutting and perforation of textiles, plastics, paper and cardboard, and other non-metallic materials. The systems offer cutting areas measuring up to 60 by 60 inches, with larger areas available by special order.

“This acquisition will [allow Orca] to address the needs of a wider variety of industrial customers and applications,” said Stephen E. Moody, Ph.D., vice president, development, Orca. “On the other side of the equation, Orca’s capabilities in system design, software and laser applications will allow us to provide these markets with new levels of performance and versatility.”
