Berkshire Hathaway Subsidiary Completes Russell Acquisition

Fruit of the Loom Inc., Bowling Green, Ky., a subsidiary of Omaha, Neb.-based conglomerate Berkshire Hathaway Inc., has completed its acquisition of Atlanta-based athletic and sporting goods manufacturer Russell Corp. The acquisition, valued at $18 per share of common stock, or nearly $600 million, was approved August 1 by Russell’s stockholders.

Russell will operate as a freestanding subsidiary of Fruit of the Loom, retaining its corporate name. John Holland, CEO of Fruit of the Loom, also will serve as CEO of Russell, replacing Jack Ward, who has retired.
