ASTM Standard Now Includes Pneumatic Bursting Instruments
As a result of a correlation exercise conducted by England-based James H. Heal & Co. Ltd., ASTM
International, West Conshohocken, Pa., has amended its D3786 Standard Test Method for Hydraulic
Bursting Strength of Textile Fabrics to include pneumatic bursting instruments such as Heal’s
TruBurst bursting strength tester — capable of testing a variety of materials such as textiles and
nonwovens, among others. The exercise results, which fell within the range of existing hydraulic
machines, demonstrated that TruBurst gave statistically superior data, according to Heal.
“This approval means that where companies have previously been restricted by the use of hydraulic machines, they will have a far superior solution available to them,” said Lisa Strachan, technical sales manager, James H. Heal. “TruBurst is a state-of-the-art repeatable instrument, which is also the clean, efficient and, above all, safer alternative for ease of use, control, installation and maintenance.”
