Milliken's US Operations Certified As Carbon-Negative

The US operations of Spartanburg-based Milliken & Company have been certified as carbon-negative following the company’s participation in The Draft American National Standard for Trial Use LEO-500-2001, a pilot program to assess a company’s carbon footprint on the planet in terms of climate emissions and offsets. 

The standard was developed by Leonardo Academy, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting environmentally sustainable practices. Leonardo Academy analyzed Milliken’s US operations and found that they produce more carbon sequestration credits annually than the amount of carbon in their carbon dioxide and other major greenhouse gas emissions caused by direct energy use and electricity.

“Over the next year, Milliken plans to expand its emission analysis to cover its operations worldwide,” said Michael Arny, founder and president, Leonardo Academy. “Once completed, Milliken will work step by step through the emissions caused indirectly from its activities and its supply chain
