PGI To Invest In Technology For Wipes Production

Charlotte-based Polymer Group Inc.
(PGI) has announced it will invest in technology to produce a new family of cost-effective,
high-performance engineered fabrics for consumer and industrial wipes and a variety of other
products. The new fabrics — to be produced using a combination of technologies and processes
including PGI’s Apex™ process — will be introduced under the Spinlace® brand at the International
Engineered Fabrics Conference and Expo (IDEA07), scheduled to take place April 24-26 in Miami
Beach, Fla.
(See “Engineered Fabrics On View,”
TW, this issue)
.

The materials will be on the market later this year.

According to PGI, Spinlace nonwoven fabrics are stronger and more absorbent than
traditionally produced wipe materials; and also are able to integrate 3-D images at lower weights
and more cost-effectively than traditional materials.

PGI’s investment includes new capabilities as well as conversion of existing equipment at
its plant in Benson, N.C. The company also will improve a pilot line used in research and
development of wipes.
