SYFA: Moving Industry Forward

The Arlington-Va.-based Synthetic Yarn and Fiber Association (SYFA) held its annual spring conference April 21-22, 2016, at the Sheraton Charlotte Airport Hotel in Charlotte.

The conference was entitled “Textile Materials In Motion, Moving Industry Forward.” E-textiles and wearable electronics were a hot topic with several presenters discussing this developing market for textiles. Keynote speaker James Hayward, technology analyst with England-based IDTechEx talked about opportunities in electronic textiles, while North Carolina State University (NCSU) Professor Dr. Jesse S. Jur discussed research taking place at the university in the arena of textile electronics. As always, the SYFA conference program covered a broad variety of topics. Other invited speakers gave talks with the following titles: “Advanced Weaving Technologies;” “The Short and Long Term Forecast for the U.S. and North American Motor Vehicle Market;” “Developments in Nomex® and Kevlar® Fibers;” “What’s New in Fabric Finishes and Coatings;” “U.S. Economic Outlook;” “Reshoring Apparel Manufacturing;” “Review of Fibers;” and “Adaptive Breathability in an Apparel Fiber – Delivered by Precise Cross Section Control.”
