WASHINGTON — November 6, 2014 — U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman will lead a U.S. Delegation to the U.S.-India Trade Policy Forum (TPF) hosted by India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) on November 25, in Delhi, India. The TPF provides the venue for evaluating progress that has been made on trade and investment issues between the United States and India at the ministerial level.
“This is an important opportunity to follow-through on Prime Minister Modi and President Obama’s commitment to use the Trade Policy Forum to deepen our trade and investment relationship and help achieve the potential of our strategic partnership,” said U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman. “The TPF is a place where bilateral trade opportunities for the United States and India can be advanced and issues can be resolved through cooperation and constructive, face-to-face discussions.”
The U.S.-India TPF is co-chaired by United States Trade Representative Michael Froman and Indian Minister of Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman. The TPF is the premier bilateral forum for the discussion and resolution of trade and investment issues between the United States and India. Discussions in the TPF are generally organized around key issue areas including intellectual property, investment in manufacturing, agriculture, and services.
U.S. goods and private services trade with India totaled $95.7 billion in 2013. Exports totaled $34.9 billion; Imports totaled $60.7 billion. India is currently the United States 11th largest goods trading partner with $63.7 billion in total (two ways) goods trade during 2013. Trade in private services with India (exports and imports) totaled $32 billion in 2013.
